Heeeeyyyyyyyy guys! As promised on my I’ve got a review on the ! I was sent 5 and I already owned 5 that I bought with my own money. The 5 I already owned were the original formula and the 5 new ones are Now makeup geek is known in America to be high-end quality and “affordable pricing” for us in Australia Makeup Geek is not “affordable” its definately a higher costing makeup item especially when you add shipping and conversion to AUD. I love Makeup Geek they are cruelty free which is amazing, they are made in the USA and the owner is Marlena, who started as a Beauty Blogger and is the cutest person ever. Keep reading for my honest thoughts and whether I think Makeup Geek should have bothered reformulating something that was already awesome…..
Prices right? I mean let’s get to the important stuff!! A makeup Geek Blush pan is $10 USD which is $13.21 AUD, if you want to buy your blush in the new cute little metallic compacts you will pay $15 USD which is $19.82 AUD. Shipping to Australia cost around $20 AUD. So there’s your prices! I love the new little compacts they are so cute and have 4.25grams of product in them, very similar compared to a Nars blush which has 4.8grams or a Becca blush that has 6 grams.
I was sent 5 of the most amazing colours and something I love most is Makeup Geek has blushes for the fairest and the darkest skin tone. Which is something SO MANY brands need to catch up on, like honestly don’t even release a product if only half your customers can use it, right? But that’s another topic. BACK ON TRACK! Here are the Shades I have bought/been sent and these are my mini reviews for each!
THE NEW FORMULA
Look at how beautiful and smooth these are!!! I love Soul Mate and valentine! these are such pretty shades!!!
Is a true terracotta with a matte finish. This shade is recommended for Medium skin tones, I have never really worn blushes this colour but I ve been playing around with it and I just love it for those summer bronze looks!!!
This is described as a Bubblegum Pink with a matte finish for Medium skin tones. I love this shade, I mean it’s just the perfect pink for a medium skin tone or a deeper rose-pink for lighter skin tones.
Soul Mate is a Rosey Mauve with a matte finish, again for medium skin tones. Remember these are just a guide by makeup geek to help you while shopping online, you can buy any colour you want, I sure do, because what doesn’t suit me as a blush works awesome for a giant eyeshadow!!
This is described as a watermelon pink with a matte finish! it’s just so pretty, Again for medium skin tones. This shade is beautiful!!
This is a rose brown shade with a matte finish. I love this shade it’s very different for me but it’s so perfect!
*A LITTLE NOTE – AS YOU CAN SEE ALL OF THE SHADES MAKEUP GEEK SENT ME ARE FOR A MEDIUM SKIN TONE, WHICH I DIDNT REALISE UNTIL I RESEARCHED IT, THEY SENT ME THESE AS THEY KNOW MY SKIN TONE. IT ACTUALLY MADE ME SO DAMN IMPRESSED WITH THEIR SHADE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TONES BECAUSE WHEN I OPENED THESE WHEN I GOT THEM I WAS LIKE, “OMG MAKEUP GEEK ARE SO CLEVER TO SEND ME MY FAVOURITE SHADES” HAHA IM SUCH AN IDIOT I DIDNT REALISE THEY HAD SENT ME THEM SPECIFICALLY FOR MY SKIN TONE. SO IF YOU ARE CONFUSED ON WHAT SHADE TO GET, DEFINATELY GO ON THE SITE AND FOLLOW THE SHADE RECOMMENDATIONS AND IM SURE YOU WILL BE HAPPY XX
These are the 5 blushes I bought that are the original formula. My god I just LOVE Rendezvous!!!!
HONEYMOON – (DISCONTINUED) Sorry guys I think this shade has been discontinued but I had already added it to my swatches so I thought id still include it, it’s a very light peachy shade with subtle silver glitter
This is described as a light salmon with a matte finish. Makeup geek recommends this for fair skin tones, I have light/medium skin and I love this also!
Romance is described as a Peachy coral with a gold shimmery finish! this is also recommended for fair skin tones, this barely shows up on me alone but because of the gold shimmer its such a pretty blush topper, I love it over anything! it gives the same sort of finish as Nars orgasm.
This is my favourite shade, it is described as a muted fuchsia with a matte finish. Makeup geek recommends this shade for deep skin tones. I love this, i find that its truer to colour in my picture than on the website. If I ever wear this or post a picture of this blush pan people ALWAYS ask what this shade is!
This shade is a light Orchid with a matte finish, this is recommended for Porcelain skin tones. I love this so much i mean it’s a light purple! it does turn to a really pretty cool pink on the skin though! I love to add this when i went a little to warm on the blush or bronzer, it really adds the best colour.
I wanted to quickly show you guys a side by side of the swatches of the new and the old blush formulas, you can see in the picture that the old formula (on the left) is more powdery and the pigmentation is a little less and you can see in the New formula (on the right) that they are smooth and look extra creamy) these swatches are taken about 3 minutes apart in the same lighting.
NOW MY THOUGHTS ON THE FORMULA?
I was worried, I love the original formula, it can be very slightly powdery but I loved the pigmentation. So i was worried that they had fixed something that wasnt broken. Apparently they made great new formula when they made their contour powders and it inspired them to improve their blush formula. SUCCESS the new blushes are somehow better. I love that they have been able to improve the blushes with out drastically changing them. They are smoother and less powdery and a little more pigmented but not drastically. You can see if the swatches that the original look more powdery and the new ones look more smooth and have that slight staining ability. They are pigmented without being over the top. Blushes that are too pigmented are hard to work with, you have to be really careful. Honestly i have 5 kids i have to be so quick when I apply my makeup so I don’t want to be careful. I love to quickly swirl my brush in a blush slap it on my face and it be just perfect. These are that formula. You don’t waste a lot of product as they aren’t excessively powdery and you dont have to be scared of the pigmentation. I have found these to have slightly more staying power than the originals, they have this nice kind of staining ability, it really adheres to your base but still blends so well. I love these. I highly recommend them, you can get them in the pan to add to your Z Palette or you can buy them in these pretty little compacts! As I said for us in australia these are still a splurge. As i mentioned in my previous makeuo geek posts HERE and HERE I recommend saving up and buying a few things and if you are buying pans not compacts DEF get a Z Palette. That way they next time you want to buy some more shadows or or blushes you can just chuck them in your Z Palette. If you don’t want to collect a few I recommend these gorge little compacts, they are really pretty!
I hope this was helpful guys! You know me, its my honest thoughts and nothing will ever make me sugar coat it or not be straight with you!!!
